According to Pat Leonard, the Rangers have announced that forward Wojtek Wolski will be undergoing surgery to fix a sports hernia. Wolski, who has missed seven games this season, was recently place on the IR, November 5th.
Groin injuries aren’t fun and they are different for each person. Wolski, who was indirectly criticized by Coach Tortorella earlier in the season, clearly wasn’t being a wimp as he is having surgery.
The Rangers have been winning lately without Wolski in the line-up. He is not a necessity, but it is still never good to have a player injured. With the way Andre Deveaux has been playing, it looks like he’ll take Wolski’s spot in the line-up. The question is, who gets called up to replace Wolski? There are multiple candidates, such as Kris Newbury, Mats Zuccarello, and John Mitchell. If I had to choose one, I’d go with Mitchell.
The Rangers next play on Wednesday in Ottawa against the Senators. Expect the line-up to remain the same.
