Georgiev Bounces Back

The Rangers matched their season high of five goals, though this time they came away with a win.  Previously they had lost 5-8 to Carolina in the third game of the season, incidentally in Alexandar Georgiev‘s only other start.  While New York have scored 10 goals with Georgiev in net, they have managed just 10 in the seven games where Henrik Lundqvist started.

Coach David Quinn picked up his third win of the season, and now has a better win percentage than Red Sullivan and Alf Pike, and equal with the unfortunate Tom Webster.  It’s still early days though, and his career could of course go either way at this point.

Mika Zibanejad had four points – 2 goals and 2 assists – on the night, equalling a career high, while Mats Zuccarello got his first and second goals of the season.  The Rangers also picked up their first short handed goal of the year, courtesy of Zibanejad, and their first empty net goal off of the leg of Kevin Hayes.

Other stats and milestones:

  • Marc Staal played his 770th regular season game for the Rangers, and now is just two behind Adam Graves for 11th all time
  • Zuccarello scored his 104th regular season goal – his second of the gaame – to tie James Patrick for 55th all time
  • Hayes scored his 75th regular season goal, tying Larry Popein for 74th all time.  It was his 177th point, tying Ted Irvine for 86th all time
  • Adam McQuaid registered his first short handed point as a Ranger, feeding the pass to Zibanejad
  • Georgiev recorded his fifth career win, moving him to 5-5 all time, and 1-1 on the season
  • Neal Pionk now has 5 power play assists this season, matching his 5 from last year
