Rangers forward Carl Hagelin has come to terms with the Rangers, preventing what might have been a contentious debate over his worth to the organization. There had been some thought that Hagelin’s agreement might be the most contentious of the Rangers RFAs, but his signing comes just five days into the free agency period.
Hagelin will reportedly return for two years for a total deal value of $4.5M, which gives him an Average Annual Value (AAV) or Cap value of $2.25M.
New York now is left with Derek Stepan, Mats Zuccarello, Justin Falk and Brandon Mashinter as their remaining RFAs, and around $4.3M in Cap room. The Rangers can clear a further $1.8M at the beginning of the season by reassigning Arron Asham and Darroll Powe to the AHL, plus they can also go over while Hagelin and Callahan are out on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIR). During the off-season, they can also go over another $6.4M.
