The Rangers announced today that they have signed undrafted prospect Justin Soryal to a three year entry level contract today. The 6-2 200lb 20 year old left winger currently plays for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL and was undrafted by an NHL team.
After spending his first two years with the team largely playing on the fourth line, the Toronto born Soryal has added some offensive to his game, scoring 26 goals in 60 games last season, and following that up with 17 goals this season.
Widely considered one of the toughest players to play against in the OHL, Soryal adds some grit to a Rangers prospect pool that features a large number of skill forwards, but few who are willing to drop the gloves. Soryal is set to finish out his career with the Petes, who will now face Belleville in the playoffs, before joining the Wolf Pack for their post season run.
