As the last 2021 draft pick to be reassigned, Brennan Othmann felt he achieved one of his goals. Observers have said he didn’t look out of place alongside his much more experienced teammates, which bodes well for his future. With just one appearance, Othmann’s chance to impress has largely been in the confines of the Rangers’ practice facility, but early reports suggest he’s one to watch.
In other news the Rangers placed six veterans on waivers for purpose of reassignment to Hartford. Teams will have until noon Eastern Friday in order to make claims. The six placed on waivers are Anthony Bitetto, Jonny Brodzinski, Tim Gettinger, Anthony Greco, Keith Kinkaid and Ty Ronning.
Given that a claiming team will require the team to retain them on their NHL roster, it’s unlikely that any of these players will be claimed. Of the six, none are a particular surprise, and were all expected going into camp.
As of today the roster is down to 40 players, with the additional 6 players tomorrow, they’ll be down to 34 with at least more 11 cuts to come, some of them more difficult decisions.
