Shattenkirk The Healthy Scratch

On Sunday Kevin Shattenkirk saw just 7:29 of ice time in the 8-5 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.  In that time, he still managed to be on the ice for both the first and seventh Carolina goals, two relatively important periods of the game which saw the Canes get back into the game and then take a two goal lead.

Hurting Shattenkirk even more was the way that Tony DeAngelo played in his first start of the year, picking up two assists in over 17 minutes of ice time, something not lost on Head Coach David Quinn, who pulled the team back for practice after a day off, and inserted the youngster into the top six.  The veteran Shattenkirk left to fill out the numbers with spare Fredrik Claesson.

Following practice the New York native appeared to admit he expects to be a healthy scratch this Thursday, telling reporters that he had to fight a little harder for a spot.
