Staal Pots Two

Marc Staal two goals, but last year’s Young Stars MVP Brandon Dubinsky was kept off the board, as the All-Star festivities got under way. Henrik Lundqvist will play 20 minutes tonight in his first All-Star selection as the only Ranger representative.

Former Rangers netminder Mike Richter is said to be considering making a run for the congressional seat vacated by Kirsten Gillibrand after she was selected to replace Hillary Clinton in the US Senate. Richter has said before that he has an interest in politics, so the move would not be a big surprise.

The Wolf Pack moved back into a tie for second in the division once more with a 4-1 win over the visiting Penguins to go into the AHL All-Star break.

The Wolf Pack spotted Wilkes-Barre Scranton a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game, but bounced back with goals to David Urquhart, Artem Anisimov, Mike Ouellette and Greg MooreMiika Wiikman stopped 32 of 33 for the win.

The Checkers won 3-2 over South Carolina, Ryan Hillier picking up the primary assist on the first goal of the game. In the QMJHL, Chris Doyle had a goal and four assists to help lead PEI to an 11-2 win over Baie-Comeau.

Carl Hagelin scored for the second straight game as the Wolverines completed a five game season sweep of the Spartans. Max Campbell got the go ahead goal for Western Michigan as they upset 11th ranked OSU.
